Gov. Andrew Cuomo easily cruised to victory Thursday night, beating back a challenge from actor-and-activist Cynthia Nixon. But voters in at least five senate districts ousted members of the former Independent Democratic Conference, which had — with Cuomo's passive blessing— effectively given control to Senate Republicans since 2011. Cuomo won with around 66 percent of Democratic votes. He'll run against Republican and Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro in November's general elections.
