More than 100 students traveled Monday to Washington to protest at the Supreme Court and to meet with senators, while others staged a sit-in at the law school. In Washington, students held umbrellas and signs aloft outside the Supreme Court in the rain, while on campus in New Haven, they filled the hallway of the law school. Hoping to mend a deepening rift, the town manager and the superintendent of schools have put forward a compromise proposal they hope will finally win approval of the town budget after three defeats. The $14.9 million town (or general government) budget went down to a stinging defeat Wednesday by a vote of 1,085 to 613. In the original vote, the town budget lost by four votes, and then 170 in the second referendum. The budget funds the town government as well as the police and public works department. By contrast, the $30 million education... [Read More]

Mobile carriers such as AT&T and Verizon are in a race to build brand-new data networks that can deliver ultra-fast downloads and support a fresh generation of smart, internet-connected devices. But a battle is brewing over how much the companies should pay for access to public utility poles and other rights-of-way, as federal regulators get ready to vote on the issue this week. The proposal by the Federal Communications Commission would establish new limits on the use fees that cities and towns can charge wireless carriers as the companies set up their new, 5G data networks. And it would... [Read More]

Back in 2006, as Glenstone, a private art museum in the Maryland suburbs of the District of Columbia, was preparing to open its first exhibition hall, curator Emily Wei went to Mitchell Rales, her billionaire boyfriend and the guy footing the bill, with a proposal: She wanted him to actually explain his vision for the museum to the press. "He's like, 'You don't understand, do you? I haven't given an interview since 1984. I'm not going to start now,' " Emily, now 42, recalls. "So we had this fight because we didn't know each other that well." "It wasn't... [Read More]

The Arthur Murray Dance Studio in downtown Danbury is more than just a place to learn the foxtrot, waltz, salsa and tango. "I'm trying to branch out in different directions," he said. "No matter what you do, it's always a workout and it's way more fun than a gym. You use muscles you never knew... [Read More]

Tracy Morgan nearly died in a 2014 crash on the New Jersey Turnpike, but thankfully he's getting around quite well these days, even changing up his look. The actor/comedian recently donned a blonde wig to portray a new character, LaDonald Trump, on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" He looked pretty funny, too, and of course that was part of the point. Morgan, also known for creating such characters as Astronaut Jones, from "Saturday Night Live," loves to make people laugh. He'll bring his stand-up show to Mohegan Sun's Uncas Ballroom on Saturday, Oct. 6, and Stamford's Palace Theatre on Friday,... [Read More]
