Sen. Bernie Sanders introduced a resolution Thursday to force members of the Senate to go on the record in accepting the assessment of the U.S. intelligence community that Russia interfered in the 2016 presidential election and the looming threat of Russian interference in this year's midterm elections. The resolution also calls for the Senate to commit to safeguard the U.S. election system, protect the ongoing investigation of Special Counsel Robert Mueller and demand that President Donald Trump cooperate with the investigation. Tim Scherwin has been named head softball coach at Sweetwater High School following the resignation of Alexandra Fuentez, who accepted a girls coaching job at Crane High School several weeks ago after compiling a 16-10 record in one season at Sweetwater. Scherwin has been the head softball coach for the past three years at Sanford-Fritch High School, where his teams set school records for wins all three years by going 13-15, 15-11 and 18-9 for an overall 46-35 mark and also reaching the playoffs all three years. An AMO volleyball camp at Sweetwater High School was held this week as the Lady Mustangs prepare for the start of their season in less than three weeks. Texas A&M AgriLife Extension is offering a food handler's class on Tues., July 24 from 2-4 p.m. at the Nolan County Courthouse, third floor conference room. There is a cost associated with the class. On Monday, July 16, local author Victor Rubio held his "Transformed: The Legend of Rising Eagle" book signing at the Nolan County-City Library. Rubio grew up in Sweetwater, and graduated in 2008.
