Following devastating summer flooding in Houghton County, Michigan, remediation of dozens of miles of recreational trails continues to take place as the Department of Natural Resources looks toward the Dec. 1 opening of the snowmobile season. Parts of the Western U.P. saw their first snow of the season last week. The increasingly cold, wet weather is bad news for construction crews repairing roads from Father's Day flood damage. The Houghton County road commission system alone was hit with $30,000,000 worth of damage. Crews and contractors hope to have half of that repaired by winter.
